Not just a comparative study, the Master of Management Study Program of the UB Medical Faculty Hospital (Program Studi Magister Manajemen Rumah Sakit Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Brawijaya or PS MMRS FKUB) in its curriculum designed an activity in the form of student outbound which aims to provide direct exposure to learning objects and subjects so as to build inquiry in the next learning process. Student outbound is a mandatory activity for PS MMRS FKUB students which is carried out at the end of the first semester as a continuation of lecture, practicum, assignment and hospital visit courses. This outbound student is also a prior exposed and knowledge to participate in teaching and learning activities in Semester II with a focus on patient safety and service excellence.
Dr. dr. Tita Hariyanti, M.Kes as Chair of the MMRS Study Program explained that the series of student outbound consisted of joint lectures, hospital visite, and dissemination. The joint lecture was held on March 3, 2020 at the University Saint of Malaysia. Hospital visite will be held on 3 – 4 March 2020 at KPJ Penang, KPJ Damansara and Ihealth Medical Center.
“Besides that, a Dissemination was held on March 13-14, 2020 at Brawijaya University. Dissemination consists of a series of activities, namely mini workshops and seminars,” she explained.
Outbound student participants are students in hospital management, practitioners or managers of hospital management, and teaching staff. The joint lecture raised the theme of Hospital Strategy, Balancing Quality Safety and Cost Efficiency to Ensure Hospital Sustainability with Prof. Dr. Siti Nabiha Abdul Khali from the University Saint of Malaysia and Dr. dr. Viera Wardhani, M.Kes from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Brawijaya Malang.
“From the joint lecture, we finally learned the differences in the health system in Malaysia and Indonesia. Starting from the difference in the accreditation system, the health financing system to the rules of practice for doctors,” said Dr. Nikma Fitriasari, M.MRS as a teaching staff participating in student outbound activities to Malaysia.
As a closing of the outbound student series, MMRS held a dissemination of mini workshops and seminars. The purpose of this activity is to share and discuss the results of comparative studies in foreign hospitals in the form of presentations on gaps and solutions and lesson learns obtained during the comparative study activities. Dissemination participants are Lecturers, Students of Class 2019, Alumni of MMRS Students, Prospective Students of MMRS 2020, and representatives of network hospitals.
There are 3 topics discussed in the mini workshop: (1) Lean Healthcare: respecting patient time (2) Measuring the quality of clinical services from the patient’s perspective and (3) Using social media to understand customers. While the seminar which was held on March 14, 2020 at Universitas Brawijaya Hotel, 2019 MMRS students who had conducted student outbound acted as presenters and moderators, and were subsequently discussed by discussing lecturer lectures related to the assignment topic. In-depth discussion of the results of comparative studies is important to be able to better understand what things can be applied in Indonesian hospitals, so as to increase the insight into the field of hospital knowledge for students.
